The Buick GS (Grand Sport) debuted in 1965 as an option on the Skylark. It included Buick's 401 cubic inch nailhead engine rated at 325 horsepower and 445 lbs-ft of torque. In 1967, the 401 was replaced with a more modern 400 cid engine rated at 340 hp and 440 ft-lbs of torque. In 1968 the GS was restyled and the Stage 1 package was introduced. The 455 was available for the first time in 1970, rated at 350 hp in the base version, and 360 hp in the stage 1 version, both versions produced 510 ft-lbs of torque. Though engine power began to drop in 1971, the Buick Grand Sport continued on as an option on the Century model from 1973-75.
