The 427 cubic inch version of Chevy’s Mark IV big block engine was introduced in 1966 in the Corvette and full-sized Chevrolets. The 427 was available in various forms, with solid or hydraulic lifters, and with compression ratios ranging from 10.25:1 to 12.25:1. Carburetion was either a single four-barrel carburetor or three two-barrels (Tri-power),. The L88 is probably the most revered version, with an advertised rating of 430 horsepower, the actual output was probably more like 550 hp. In 1969, a rare ZL1 all aluminum version of the engine was produced. This was basically an aluminum L88 producing even more power, probably around 600hp. Reportedly only two Corvettes and 69 Camaros were manufactured with the ZL1 engine. Versions of the 427 include the L36, L72, L68, L71, L89, L88, ZL1, and the ZLX.Note that most shirts that have a small design on the front, also have a full-sized image on the back.
