The displacement of Chevy’s big block was increased to 454 cubic inches for 1970. The LS5 version of the 454 was rated at 390 horsepower and 500 ft-lbs of torque, and the LS6 was rated at 450 hp though its actual output was probably over 500. Both engines were available in the Corvette and the SS454 Chevelle. An LS7 version that was rated at 465 hp never went into production. Horsepower ratings went down for 1971 and continued to fall thereafter due to emissions controls, lower octane fuel and unleaded gas, and a change in ratings standard, from SAE gross horsepower, to SAE net.Note that most shirts that have a small design on the front, also have a full-sized image on the back.
